Mediation Center of the Pacific Pledge to Try Mediation First to Solve Conflicts

On December 4, 2013 Midweek published an article titled Pledge to Try Mediation First to Solve Conflicts written by Jerry Clay, President of the board, Mediation Center of the Pacific. 19 Books Recommended by ACR Hawaii and Matsunaga Institute for Peace in Honor of Conflict Resolution Day

For the past three years the Association for Conflict Resolution Hawaii Chapter and the Matsunaga Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution have partnered to display books in honor of Conflict Resolution Day. Conflict Resolution Day is acknowledged annually on the third Thursday of October to promote awareness of mediation, arbitration, conciliation and other creative, peaceful means of resolving conflict. The displays are set up around that day and stay on display for at least two weeks. The books will be displayed with proclamations from the Honolulu City Council, Mayor Kirk Caldwell, and Hawaii Governor Neil Abercrombie. The range includes books on alternative dispute resolution, fieldbooks, practitioner training guides, and theoretical books that build on decades of scholarship in conflict resolution, leadership, collaborative dialogue and governance, and peace and nonviolence. The range of application is from a local level to a national and global scale. Member Spotlight – Karen Cross

Hawaii Board member and Past President, Karen Cross was honored and recognized on Saturday, May 4, 2013 as one of three pioneers of mediation in Hawaii, at Under a Mediation Moon, a benefit to support the work of The Mediation Center of the Pacific. Chief Justice Ronald Moon (Ret.) and Keith Hunter shared the spotlight with Karen on this festive evening filled with wine, good food and song. Singing to the tune of All My Loving, the crowd lovingly sang her praises in a song that details her life and many accomplishments. Congratulations, Karen!
