The Power of Two: An Integrative Approach to Conflict Resolution – Free ACR Family Section Webinar with Kathleen Adams – September 20, 2017

From Giuseppe Leone: Integrative Mediation (IM) is a pioneering approach to conflict resolution that pairs a conflict resolution professional with a psychotherapist or mental health professional to address all aspects of a dispute: legal, financial, psychological — and emotional. By addressing the underlying emotional issues of the parties, IM seeks to improve the odds of a more efficient, cost-effective process and the achievement of a deeper, more lasting resolution. The pairings may consist of a lawyer, financial planner, or mediator working alongside a mental health professional. Using this holistic approach, parties in conflict are far more likely to resolve their legal, business, and/or family disputes quickly and in a more rational and sustainable manner. In this webinar, Kathleen Adams, LCSW outlines the foundational theory of IM and spells out the advantages and limitations of shared conflict resolution. She shares real-world examples of IM-based resolutions and data that support this approach. Who should attend: >> Professionals who believe that no conflict is fully resolved until the underlying emotional conflicts have been addressed >> Mediators working to enhance and expand their practice >> Attorneys, psychotherapists and other professionals seeking to create professional relationships outside of their domain Hosted by Virtual Mediation Lab, this free 1-hour webinar is sponsored by the Association for Conflict Resolution Family Section. When: September 20, 2017 8:00am Hawaii Time. Admission is free, but seating is limited. Registration: For more information and to register online click here https://goo.gl/LnwUx9

Ku’ikahi Mediation Center: August Events

Thursday, August 10, 2017: Ku’ikahi Mediation Center presents COMMUNICATING NEEDS TO FAMILY & SERVICE PROVIDERS: A Workshop for Caregivers of Adults (age 60+). Facilitated by Elizabeth Kent, this workshop takes place from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm in Hilo (also being offered on Friday, August 11 in Kona via West Hawai’i Mediation Center). Caring for an older adult is all about communication. You need to talk with them about the changes in their lives-health, finances, living situation, legal documents, and more. And you need to talk with family members and service providers about changing roles, making decisions, and shifting responsibilities. People can be sensitive and defensive about these issues. In this interactive workshop, learn some powerful communication tools that mediators use to promote understanding. Topics include: careful listening to discover why something is important to another person; the importance of “how” a message is said as well as “what” is said; verbal and non-verbal components of messages; and how to ask effective questions and keep conversations focused. Suggested contribution is $20.
