5:1 Kindness Challenge Starts!

This challenge is dedicated to mediators, arbitrators, facilitators, and all conflict resolution practitioners and peacebuilders throughout Hawaiʻi in acknowledgement of Conflict Resolution Day, October 17, 2019, celebrated annually on the third Thursday of October. What separates healthy and happy relationships from miserable ones is a balance of positive to negative interactions. Studies in the field of social psychology  show that it takes five positive interactions to make up for every one bad encounter you have with someone. It is called the 5:1 Magic Ratio. Think of it as a simple formula for building healthy relationships (at home or at work). Click here to find out how this challenge works.

Two Workshops with Peter S. Adler, PhD in Hilo

Ku'ikahi Mediation Center 101 Aupuni Street, Suite PH 1014 B-2, Hilo

SCRUTINY, STRATEGY, AND ALIGNMENT Morning Workshop: 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. "Every executive must lead their enterprise through organizational change," says Dr. Adler.  "Sometimes an effort calls for tuning up an older, reliable strategy with updated objectives and benchmarks.  In other cases, the call for change arises from an existential threat and requires a profound soul search.  The meta-purpose of all strategy is to establish a desired position at a future point in time, avoid aimless wandering, and minimize useless and unproductive conflict." This workshop is recommended for group and team leaders who want to diagnose problems, organize priorities, and design and implement appropriate and aligned strategies for the future. NEGOTIATION 'JAZZ' Afternoon Workshop: 1:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. "There is a new wave of negotiation thinking that has moved beyond the basic principle of focusing on interests rather than positions, as espoused in the classic book Getting To Yes," says Dr. Adler.  "Newer approaches help leaders use diagnostic skills to address the challenges their organizations face, and stay both competitive and cooperative in principled ways." This workshop will explore and adapt ideas from the improvisational world of jazz for people who face tugs and pulls in their work.  Recommended for those who want to improve their personal and professional problem solving skills.
