New research in the Hawaiian language archive reveals an engaged native Christian church whose congregations faced challenges to their nation’s independence with claims on both God and nation. Dr. Ronald Williams Jr. holds a PhD in History with a specialization in Hawai’i and native-language resources. He is a former faculty member within the Hawai’inuiākea School of Hawaiian Knowledge at UH Mānoa, a past p 7-year-old Hawaiian Historical Society, and current Hoʻopaʻa Kūʻauhau (Historian) for Ka ʻAhahui Hawaiʻi Aloha ʻĀina.
