Happy Spring CRA!

Good afternoon everyone and happy spring!

During a season when birds are chirping and flowers are blooming, make time to take in all of the beauty that our planet provides us with every day.

As the wise Echart Tolle says,

Look at a tree, a flower, a plant. Let your awareness rest upon it. How still they are, how deeply rooted in Being. Allow nature to teach you stillness.

This coming month we have quite a few events, so get ready to check your schedule!

On April 7th, from 9:00 am – 11:30 am, there is a FREE Cyber-Conference on Dispute Resolution. This is the 11th annual conference and we will be hearing from incredible speakers such as:

Lorenn Walker: Restorative Practitioner and Professor at University of Hawaii

Harold Gatensby: Community Leader and Cirlce Peace-Maker, Tlingit First Nation, Raven Clan, Yukon, Canada

Mahmoud Khalili: Madrid’s Bircham International University

John Cooper: Confict Resolution Consultant in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tanzania, and Kyrgyzstan

Renata Valree: Former President of the National Association for Community Mediation, NCRP Professor, CSUDH

Gerson Damiani: Director, Global Center for Peace Studies- University of Sao Paulo, Brazil

The conference will be facilitated by Dr. Brian Jarrett and supports the work of those building safer and healthier communities all over the world.

Further, the American Bar Association (ABA) is hosting a conference with a hybrid model with in-person programs and events in Los Angeles, CA as well as robust virtual options. The conference takes place from April 14-April 17. All in-person events will follow local and CDC public health guidelines and regulations.

The theme of the 2021 Spring Conference is Agility, Disruption, and Reinvention: ADR in a New World.

This past year we have witnessed non-violent and violent confrontations, all in a highly contentious political environment. The 2021 conference will examine how these and other recent events have disrupted the field of dispute resolution, how the field has adapted, and what additional reinvention may be necessary or beneficial.

On April 16th from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, we have a one-day training entitled Mediation Skills for Managers. This training provides hands-on skills and strategies for resolving disputes in the workplace through an informal, structured and private negotiation process. Participants in the afternoon session will have the opportunity to apply and practice the skills in simulated workplace conflicts. Join us to learn practical skills that can help you problem solve while maintaining dignity and preserving working relationships!

We have an event on April 21 at 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm called Crafting a Positive, Comfortable and Safe Online Space for Mediation w/Tracey Wiltgen and Lou Chang.

Practitioners in the spectrum of ADR methods strive to create supportive climates for productive communication between disputing parties. While this is already a challenging goal in a traditional “in-person” environment, it becomes more difficult in a virtual setting devoid of the human touch. Lou Chang and Tracey Wiltgen will share experiences, perspectives, and ideas to help ADR practitioners explore the elements of virtual platforms.

Come see what there is to learn about creating safe spaces online, and how to foster a hopeful, comfortable online environment for positive collaborative discussions!

Ku’ikahi Mediation Center is hosting a Basic Mediation Training on April 24-25 from 9:00am-3:30pm. This event also continues on May 1-2 at the same times. This 24-hour training offers instruction in the process of mediation and how to apply advanced communication skills to help parties resolve differences.  People in conflict often focus on each other as the problem, going head to head.  Mediation helps people focus on the issues, so they can see they have a joint problem to solve. We will hear from Diane Petropulos, M.A. who is a principal in ADRinACTION, offering mediation, facilitation, and training services in mediation and workplace conflict. All background and personality types are welcome!

We hope you can join us for these extremely valuable and informative events this month.

As always, we hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy. Have a great week!

Set peace of mind as your highest goal, and organize your life around it.”
