In honor of Conflict Resolution Day 2016, Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center is hosting an Open House from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 20 at its office in The Hilo Lagoon Centre, 101 Aupuni Street, Suite PH 1014 B-2. The event is free and open to the public.
The highlight of the Open House will be a one-hour Brown Bag Lunch Series simulation from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. A ‘Live Action Mediation’ will be conducted to demonstrate how mediators empower people to find their own best solutions.
Various other activities will be interspersed throughout the day. The morning line-up includes a 9:30 a.m. showing of the video “Mediation: An Alternative to Court,” a10:00 a.m. live demonstration of “Got Conflict? What Happens When You Call Us For Help!” and an 11:00 a.m. live demonstartion of a “Client Intake” leading up to the mediation simulation.
Afternoon activities include a 1:30 p.m. panel with volunteer mediators on “Why Does Mediation Work?”, a 2:45 p.m. mini-workshop on “Active Listening,” and a 3:45 p.m. mini-workshop on “Inner Peace Techniques.”
You can also take a quiz to win a door prize, sign the Hawai’i Mediation Pledge, talk-story with staff and volunteers, watch mediation videos, listen to mediation PSAs, browse literature, explore the office, and more.
